FAQs

How long does a session take and what will I be doing?

The standard Kensho session is 45 minutes.

Patterned after the daily routine of the Iceman Wim Hof, you’ll start by preparing the body with some breathwork, then change into your swimsuit and cold plunge for 1-5 minutes depending on your comfort level. After drying off and changing again, you’ll be able to warm up by sipping delicious organic tea in our tea lounge.

I’m not ready to commit to a membership. Can I try it out?

Absolutely! We offer a drop-in pass for just $35 that will provide you a 45-minute session, including breathwork, cold plunge, and tea lounge access.

Can I pause my membership?

Yes. We’re always willing to work with you. Speak with one of our staff for any changes or adjustments you need to make to your membership.

I’m only here in Florida in the winter, but I want a membership. Am I locked in all year?

Nope! We love our snowbirds, and your membership is month to month. We ask for a 30-day notice if you need to pause or cancel.

Do you have showers?

Unfortunately, we don’t have showers at this time. We encourage you to shower before coming if you’ve been working out or have been working in the garden. That said, our cold plunge tubs have ozone filtration systems that kill 99.9% of bacteria and germs, so you’ll be in a sanitary environment. If you book a sauna session and plan to use the cold plunge tubs, we encourage you to dry off with a towel and wait a few minutes before entering the tub.

Do you have food there?

We do not have any food at the studio for sale, but there are restaurants and a Trader Joe's next to the studio.

What teas or drinks do you have? Are they free?

We offer an assortment of organic teas complimentary with your session. We also have additional refreshing non-alcoholic beverages available for sale.

What books do you recommend to educate myself more?

While there are many excellent books now written on the subject(s), a couple of staples we always recommend are "Breath" by James Nestor and "The Wim Hof Method" by Wim Hof. We have copies of both in the tea lounge of the studio that you are welcome to read while relaxing.

Why is your tea lounge a “no cell phone zone”?

We deem our tea lounge as a “digital detox” zone so that you can take just a few minutes out of your day to enjoy stillness, peace, and quiet without your phone. At Kensho, we are big on social connection. Stripe up a conversation with another patron, make friends, laugh, read a book, or just relax and sip your tea.

Is your studio wheelchair accessible?

Yes, it is. We offer an accessible entrance without any stairs. Should any persons in wheelchairs need assistance, we can provide them full access to the amenities, even the cold plunge tubs.

Do veterans get a discount?

Yes. We love our veterans, and as a small thank you, we offer a 20% discount on all memberships and drop-in visits.

Can I bring my kids?

While we plan to offer some specific classes in the future for teenagers, Kensho is currently an 18+ studio for liability reasons.

Can I bring my dog?

We love dogs, but for the cleanliness of the studio and the tranquility of our participants, we don’t allow dogs or any other pets.

Can I just come in to do breathwork and chill out?

Yes indeed! You’ll still need to book a standard Kensho session online, but you can use your 45 minutes to do breath work and/or hang out and sip tea and read a good book. It’s up to you. You’re welcome here.

I’m an athlete. Will this improve my performance and help me with my recovery?

While we can’t guarantee it, chances are…yes! It’s no secret that athletes have been doing ice baths for decades to reduce inflammation and speed up recovery. Science is showing more and more benefits every year we study cold exposure and breathwork. Founder Brock Cannon is a former pro cyclist and ultra runner and can speak more in-depth about the benefits for athletes when you come in!

Do I have to stay for the entire 45-minute session?

Nope! You are welcome to always just come in during your scheduled session to use just the cold plunge or to do breathwork separately. Whatever your schedule allows for that day!

What qualifies THE KENSHO TEAM to guide me through breathwork and the cold exposure experience?

Founder Brock Cannon is a certified Wim Hof Method instructor and has taught hundreds of others how to experience cold therapy for over four years. As a certified instructor, Brock is required to recertify every year and keep up to date with the latest science and knowledge around best practices. In addition to the credential, Brock has performed thousands of breathwork sessions and hundreds of extreme cold plunge sessions indoors and outdoors. He’s been personally taught by the legendary Wim Hof and will surely pass along the best tips and tricks!

I have mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Can breathwork and cold plunging help me?

Yes! There’s no better practice for mental health improvement! Whether you do breathwork or breathwork + cold exposure, you’ll reap the benefits of activating a host of feel-good chemicals naturally that will be released in the body and brain as you do the practice(s). Our staff will ensure that the experience is customized to help you appropriately as well should be nervous at all.

How often do you offer Wim Hof Method events?

Lucky for you, since our founder is a Wim Hof Method instructor and is connected to a network of other highly experienced instructors, we offer a Wim Hof Method workshop nearly every month. We also offer Wim Hof Weekend retreats. Be sure to stay tuned to our events page.

How many people are allowed in the studio at a time?

Our sessions are staggered only to allow 5 participants every 30 minutes. That way, there are no long waits for the ice baths or changing rooms.

Can I rent out Kensho for my company event, birthday party, or another special event?

Yes! We typically open the studio for private events on Sundays or evenings and can accommodate up to 30 people. Each experience can be customized according to your wants and needs!

BREATHWORK FAQs

What are the breathwork classes like?

They’re awesome! Each week we offer a variety of breathwork classes in group settings. It’s powerful and fun to come together as a community to breathe, but you’ll be able to get outside of your comfort zone and learn new styles of breathwork to help you in your everyday life. You’ll feel euphoric. Check out our weekly schedule and grab a slot when one pops up!

How does the breath work lounge work exactly?

Our breath work lounge features five extremely comfy reclining chairs called Moon Pods. After getting comfy, our staff will set you up with your iPad, earphones, and a complimentary eye mask. On the iPad, you’ll be able to access either great breathing music, the Othership app, or the Wim Hof Method app. Each offers a different experience, and in total, you’ll have access to over 500 guided breath work sessions! You can breathe for as little as a few minutes or go deeper with a guided 30-minute journey. Our staff will always be present should you have questions or need assistance.

Do I have to lie down for breathwork?

While specific breath work techniques are done sitting cross-legged, the majority of the breath work styles and guided sessions that we offer at Kensho are strongly encouraged to be done lying down.

Will breathwork help my headaches, migraines, or hangovers?

More than likely. There are specific sessions that will drastically assist you in reducing the inflammation responsible for such unpleasant experiences.

Are there any health contraindications to doing breath work?

There’s a style of breath work for everyone, but some of the upregulated sessions are not encouraged for pregnant women, people who are epileptic, or some with severe heart conditions. Be sure to consult your doctor before trying a more intense upregulated style of breath work. Our staff can guide you toward a session that will provide a great experience.

COLD PLUNGE FAQs

I HAVE SPECIFIC HEALTH CONTRAINDICATIONS. IS IT SAFE FOR ME TO COLD PLUNGE?

Pregnant women, epileptic persons, or anyone with severe heart conditions are not encouraged to use the cold plunge. You’ll want to consult your doctor before starting, and we’d encourage such persons to begin with short cold showers instead. That said, it’s a very individual choice, and our trained staff can guide you to a successful experience.

How cold are the cold plunge tubs?

Kensho has two state-of-the-art Morozko Forge cold plunge baths. Temperature can fluctuate, but generally speaking, we keep one at about 35 degrees F and the other at 50 degrees F.

What do I need to bring to my Kensho session?

We encourage you to wear comfortable clothes and bring your swimsuit. Towels are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own towel if you like. And yes, we have changing rooms.

How long does it take to warm up naturally after the cold plunge?

We encourage you to warm up slowly and naturally, even by allowing the body to shiver. There are some techniques to warm up efficiently that we teach all participants before they enter the cold. Every person is different. In the beginning, as you adapt to more deliberate cold exposure, you might shiver for up to an hour or so after your plunge. However, the more often you practice, the more efficiently your body will warm up, and you might be feeling normal in as little as 15-20 minutes. We take the rewarming process seriously, so our trained staff will be sure to coach you through it. Fortunately, in South Florida, you can step outside most days and warm up pretty quickly!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COLD PLUNGE?

As often as it feels good to you! We have people who come daily and some just once a week to reap the benefits. We’d strongly encourage you to commit to a month of the practice and then adjust from there to what the best routine is for you.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU CLEAN THE COLD-PLUNGE TUBS?

Our cold plunge tubs are state-of-the-art commercial units that have built-in ozone filtration systems which kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria. That said, we are overly zealous to always ensure the water in the tubs is crystal clear and clean so we empty them as often as needed depending on the volume of people getting in.

I’m nervous! How can I best prepare for the cold plunge experience?

We enormously encourage gradually increasing yourself to the cold. You might allow yourself to feel a bit cold outside by removing a layer of clothing on a cold day or taking a cold shower for the last 30 seconds of your regular shower at home. The first week will be a bit challenging, but you’ll notice your body starting to adapt quickly. That said, if you want to just get right in the cold plunge tubs at the studio, we’ll be sure to coach you through it and provide proper training beforehand! It’s all included in your visit!

How long do I stay in the cold plunge for?

For safety, we limit the time per person to 5 minutes in the cold plunge. The science shows that in just 2-3 minutes, you reap all the benefits of deliberate cold exposure. There’s no need to overdo it!

Should I dunk my head under the water in the cold plunge?

While it looks cool and certainly refreshing, Kensho does not allow any head dunking. Why? For sanitary reasons, to reduce accidents, and also…cold water sensitivity on the brain is a whole new animal. Participants caught head dunking will only receive one warning. You’ll still feel fantastic from just going up to your neck! Trust us.

INFRARED SAUNA FAQs

Does Kensho have a sauna?

Yes! We have a beautiful state-of-the-art Sauna Space brand sauna (learn more here) available as an add-on service during your visit or as a separate experience. Sessions are 45 minutes.

Do you encourage people to warm up in the sauna?

Actually, no. While it seems like a good idea, warming up in the sauna immediately after your cold exposure can prolong shivering. You want to allow your body at least 30 minutes to warm up naturally before considering a sauna so that the cold blood doesn’t mix with the warm blood (called the Afterdrop) too quickly. We encourage you to warm up with some light movements outside in our tea lounge area and sip tea to warm up slowly from the inside out.
